Re: narration style - I would say that Mr Rathbone hit his stride after the first few episodes which are somewhat stilted. Re: the series - I found the second book to be more engaging. I haven't yet listened to the third but I will listen just to see where the chips fall. I agree though my feelings weren’t as strong as yours.
